Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Chancellor’s Office is to support the Chancellor’s leadership of UNC Greensboro in fulfillment of its mission to redefine the public research university for the 21st century as an inclusive, collaborative, and responsive institution making a difference in the lives of students and the communities it serves. The Chancellor serves as the university’s Chief Executive Officer, with more than 20,000 students, and 2,500 plus faculty and staff. He is the spokesperson providing leadership at local, state, national and international levels.

Responsibilities that fall within the Chancellor’s Office range from developing and administering university-wide plans, programs and initiatives, to communicating with a variety of constituents, including but not limited to the Board of Governors (BOG), UNCG Board of Trustees (BOT), as well as students, alumni, faculty, staff, policymakers, community members, and donors.

The Chancellor’s Office maintains a high level of professionalism and customer excellence. Staff members successfully navigate a fast-paced and often politically sensitive environment, requiring excellent judgment and thoughtful perception.

The Executive Assistant to the Chancellor provides professional-level staff assistance to the Chancellor and is an integral part of the Office of the Chancellor. The Executive Assistant to the Chancellor serves as the principal administrative support to the Chancellor.

The person in this position must exercise independent action and mature and sound judgement for:

  • Managing the Chancellor’s time – must demonstrate ability to set priorities in scheduling appointments, travel, and public appearances; serve as a liaison between the Chancellor and a variety of internal and external constituents.
  • Problem-Solving and decision-making – must demonstrate ability to be flexible and creative in resolving problems; anticipate and negotiate solutions for potential problems by encouraging discussion and considering various viewpoints; explain basis for decisions by using substantive knowledge of policies, procedures, and program operations.
  • Communications – must demonstrate ability to keep Chancellor and others informed on various situations and issues either in verbal or written form by independently researching, developing, and composing a variety of material.
  • Office management – must demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively; prioritize work flow to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the office; encourage and promote a positive work environment.
Minimum Qualifications

~ Bachelor’s degree with at least five or more years of progressive administrative office experience in a university or college setting or another large, complex organization.

~ Demonstrated ability to multi-task, to handle multiple projects and conflicting priorities efficiently, appropriately, and productively.

~ Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft high-level correspondence.

~ Ability to demonstrate professional conduct at all times and exhibit maturity, reliability, and composure under pressure.

~ Unquestioned integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality,

~ Ability to work effectively as a member of the Chancellor’s office team. Consistent demonstration of courtesy and consideration of others, listening skills, and respect for others.

~ Ability to maintain collegial relationships with individuals at all levels of the university and to communicate effectively with external and internal stakeholders.

~ Ability to adapt to complex new work situations and develop effective process improvements that maximize the Chancellor’s time and energies.

~ Ability to work with diverse constituencies of faculty, administrators, department heads, staff, students, and alumni.
