Position Summary

The mission of Lloyd International Honors College is to recruit outstanding undergraduate students to UNCG and to provide them with an enhanced and supportive intellectual and social experience that acculturates them to the life of the mind and helps them to become critical, independent thinkers who are active in the design and pursuit of their own education, globally aware and engaged, and prepared to lead successful and fulfilling professional, civic, and personal lives.

The Honors College seeks to achieve its Mission by offering its students two distinct Honors programs – the International Honors Program that allows students to get an enhanced and internationalized general education coupled with study outside the United States, and the Disciplinary Honors Program that allows students to do Honors work in their majors. The Honors College offers a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to round out the Honors experience. Each of these programs depends on the active engagement of UNCG’s best faculty.

Central to its Mission, the Honors College prepares its students for leadership in a growingly interdependent and inter-cultural world by helping students build critical oral communication skills using creative modes of learning that incorporate performance, improvisation, and play as part of developing social and emotional intelligence for greater global competency.

The Honors College seeks a Coordinator of Programming for the International Honors Program and Academic Advisor for Honors students pursuing both International and Disciplinary Honors. The incumbent will coordinate student programming events and The incumbent will advise students in both the International and Disciplinary Honors programs serve as the coordinator of communications and promotion of the Honors College via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn); will write press releases for the Honors College; will edit the Honors College newsletter Navigator and the Honors College blog There Be Dragons; will continuously update student profiles on the Honors College website.

The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent preferred. PhD or other terminal degree welcomed. Experience in undergraduate advising is preferred. Administrative experience in an Honors College or demonstrated knowledge of and involvement with honors work is preferred. The applicant should demonstrate excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work with faculty, staff, and a diverse student body. The candidate should possess knowledge Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Banner and Filemaker is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree required; Professional skills required: (1) Computer skills with MSWord, MSExcel, WebFocus, and database programs, preferably experience with the Banner system used at UNCG. Should be willing to learn FileMaker; experience with basic desktop publishing preferred; (2) Organizational skills to input and read student and advisee information in Honors College info systems; (3) Ability to work with and advise a diverse population of undergraduate students; (4) Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a writing sample is required as a part of the application. Work experience required: Experience advising undergraduate students or working in an Honors program or college desired. Experience developing student leadership programs is desired. Experience managing social media platforms is preferred. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
