Position Summary

The Department of English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for a non-tenure track Academic Professional position as the Director of the Digital ACT Studio to begin August 1, 2017. This position is a full-time, 10-month administrative appointment. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal. The Director will be responsible for all activities of the Digital Studio for both students and faculty. In addition to programming, the position includes supervision of a staff of approximately 7-8 undergraduates and graduate assistants. The Director will train undergraduate staff by teaching English 391, Studies in Digital Studio Theory and Practice.

Established with five-year Title III grant, the Digital ACT (Action, Consultation, and Training) Studio (https://digitalactstudio.uncg.edu/) opened in 2012-13 on the lower level of Jackson Library. With the Writing and Speaking Centers, the Digital Studio provides the array of student support for developing communication skills that comprise the University’s Multiliteracy Centers (https://multiliteracycenters.uncg.edu/). Open during the week (M-F) throughout the academic year, the Studio offers face-to-face, online, and workshop services to enhance the digital rhetorical skill of students and faculty by advising them on the effective use of digital media such as slide presentations, video projects, podcasts, digital photography, and websites in written and oral presentations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English or appropriate field (e.g. Media Studies, Rhetoric, Composition, Communication).
  • Significant training, research, and publication in digital communication pedagogies, OR
  • Administrative experience in digital, writing, speaking, or other similar peer consultation center.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in English or appropriate field
  • Familiarity with current technologies used to support innovative teaching practices requiring digital communication.
  • Significant outreach, especially workshop experience.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Ability to work with faculty and students in a variety of disciplines.
