Position Summary

Preservation Services, a division of Special Collections and University Archives, is responsible for preventing damage to collections and for repairing or replacing material when damage does occur. Major categories of work in Preservation Services include conservation for damaged materials and newly acquired materials, preservation of the University Libraries’ collections, which include the Music Library, Special Collections, University Archives, and the general Jackson Library holdings. Preservation Services provides resources for disaster prevention and disaster response.

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct conservation and preservation activities, under the supervision of the Preservation Services Manager. This includes evaluation of damaged materials, determining conservation strategy, and implementing treatments. Maintenance of the various University Libraries collections is vital in order to provide patrons with ample research materials and protect the valuable resources in which the University Libraries has invested in. The Preservation Services Technical Assistant provides maintenance for general materials, repair work for rush items requested by patrons, and constructs special housing for unique items for both the general collections and holdings in Special Collections and University Archives.UNCG faculty, students, staff and all other library patrons

Minimum Qualifications


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an academic library setting, with relation to conservation, preservation, and bookbinding.
• Proficiency in current manual bookbinding techniques.
• Experience in working with a wide variety of media formats.
• Proficiency with computer applications, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and/or graphic design programs.
• Graduation from a college program, preferably art or design related.
