Position Summary

Internal Posting, Permanent SHRA/EHRA Employees Will Only Be Considered

The Associate Vice Provost is a core member of the Graduate School leadership team, working in partnership with the Vice Provost, providing vision, creative direction, and positive leadership and guidance to the office staff. The Associate Vice Provost also coordinates Graduate School academic programs, initiatives, and policies. The Associate Vice Provost participates in long-term, strategic planning for the Graduate School and contributes to policy decisions, as well as decisions regarding students’ academic career, which affect their academic studies, social lives, health, and well-being.

Primary responsibilities include: Graduate student enrichment and professional development programming.

Other responsibilities include: Faculty Advisor for the Graduate Student Association, New Graduate Student Orientation, New Directors of Graduate Study Orientation, DGS Web Handbook, Orientation for Departmental Assistants, Orientation and Training of the Graduate School’s student workers, ACA Work Hour Exceptions, Time Extensions, Accelerated Degree Program applicant approvals, Oversight of policy and regulations portion of Bulletin, Fellowships and Awards Programs

Graduate School Governance: Member of the Graduate Studies Committee, Curriculum Sub-Committee, Student Affairs Sub-Committee, and the Policies and Procedures Sub-Committee; Institutional Effectiveness Representative; Academic Integrity Representative; represent the Graduate School on various committees and programs.

The Associate Vice Provost of Graduate Education reports to the Vice Provost for Graduate Education.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required are strong collaborative leadership qualities, demonstrated success in teaching, scholarship, mentoring students, and a commitment to promoting the educational and research mission of The Graduate School.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated administrative ability combined with a vision of the role of graduate education in fulfilling the academic objectives of the university.
  • Tenured Associate or Full Professor
  • Strong understanding of academic policies, procedures and culture and demonstrated experience advising students on highly complex, confidential matters.
  • Understanding of graduate student financial aid and funding processes.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, optimistic outlook, adaptable and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for team work and consensus building among staff and faculty.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others. Ability to set priorities and multi-task.
  • Ability to learn and innovate as needs of university and higher education evolve.
    Strong organizational skills are essential.
