UNCG Facilities Operations is comprised of skilled professionals dedicated to the continuous maintenance, operation, and improvement of University facilities and grounds in order to provide a safe, clean, and well functioning environment for all members of the University community. Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulator compliance, project management, and renovations.

Facilities Operations is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Electronics Specialist position, with a focus on Fire Alarm systems.

This is a skilled position with responsibility to operate, maintain, repair and upgrade as directed the automated fire alarm systems on campus. This position also performs hardware and software preventive maintenance, repairs, and improvements.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Repair of Fire Alarm Systems – 40%
  • Maintenance of Fire Alarm and all Safety Equipment – 40%
  • Record Keeping and Administration of all Testing and Inspections of Fire Protection Systems – 15%
  • Construction – In house – 5%

Duties and tasks included:

  • Repair of Fire Alarm Systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance and testing of fire protection systems per applicable codes and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Electrical work in support of in-house renovation/construction projects.
  • Submit labor and materials reports to supervisor
  • Ensure sufficient materials are available
Minimum Qualifications

ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE IN ELECTRONICS; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of (4) years, recent experience in the Fire Alarm industry.
  • Must have in depth knowledge and experience in programming, service, and repair of Fire Detection and Suppression systems, and Proprietary Central Alarm Receiving Stations.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge, experience and application of various codes and standards, such as but not limited to: NFPA13, 14, 20, 25, 70, 72, Life Safety 101, NC Dept. of Insurance requirements for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems and ADA requirements.

Ability to research electronic literature to modify, build, or interface electronic devices.
